HOUSE BELIEFS

THE BIBLE
At The House Port Charlotte, we believe the Bible is the written Word of God. Inerrant, authoritative, and true in form. Each word was divinely inspired by the Holy Spirit for us. It holds final authority in determining all doctrinal truth.

“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”

2 Timothy 3:16-17

The Apostles' Creed (2nd century) & the Nicene Creed (4th century) are the basis of true Christian belief, as confessed and held by the early Church.
THE APOSTLE'S CREED
I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; He descended to the dead. On the third day He rose again; He ascended into heaven. He is seated at the right hand of the Father. And He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit. The holy Church (the Church in all times and all places), the communion of saints. The forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.

Amen.
THE NICENE CREED
I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible.

And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of the Father before all worlds;

God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God; begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father, by whom all things were made.

Who for us men, for our salvation, came down from heaven, and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the Virgin Mary, and was made man; and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate.

He suffered and was buried; and the third day He rose again, according to the Scriptures; and ascended into heaven, and sits on the right hand of the Father; and He shall come again, with glory to judge the quick and the dead; whose kingdom shall have no end.

And I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and Giver of Life; who proceeds from the Father and the Son; who with the Father and the Son together is worshiped and glorified; who spoke by the Prophets.

And I believe in the one holy universal and apostolic Church.

I acknowledge one baptism for the remission of sins; and I look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come.

Amen.
THE GOSPEL
We believe the gospel to be the message of hope for all of humanity. The gospel is a message of good news, of God coming to us in the person of Jesus. His death, burial, & resurrection. Redeeming humanity through the forgiveness of sins, God creating the right relationship with us, & establishing the kingdom of God through his people, not by our doing but by his grace & power through the Holy Spirit.
THE HOLY SPIRIT
The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God. The Holy Spirit is received at the moment of salvation to those who confess Jesus as Lord. The main role of the Spirit is to cleanse us & transform us into Christ-likeness. (Sanctification) The Spirit is fully active in the life of Jesus followers. The spirit empowers the believer through the gifts to build up & sanctify the Church. The gifts should always operate in harmony with scripture never to be
violated by any biblical standards. Ultimately the fruit of one's life, translates the Spirit's work in them.
THE CHURCH
The Church is the Body of Christ. Through the Church, God seeks to further establish his kingdom here on earth. The context for this community is to equip & build up one another as we seek to become mature and fulfill the calling of Jesus to make disciples.
MARRIAGE & FAMILY
We believe Marriage is a powerful life-long covenant, Sacred and instituted by God between a male & female relationship. This covenant is a powerful model of Christ's relationship & devotion to us. We as his bride - The Church.
Family is established through this covenant as the fruit of marriage. We believe kids to be a gift from the Lord as we seek to raise & establish families in the goodness of the Lord.
BAPTISM
We believe baptism to be an act of obedience in one's own Journey of following Jesus. This is a full immersion-water baptism not essential to one's own salvation but a proclamation of our devotion to Jesus that represents the transformational work that has happened and is happening inwardly through the spirit.
COMMUNION
We believe communion to be the representation of the finished work of the cross. The body (bread) & blood (juice) are symbolic of the new covenant. This is a call to remember
the sacrificial love poured out on the cross for us. We practice communion together as a community in the context of house groups. We believe this to be a sacred practice that is meant to be done intentionally and communally together in homes.
